Step - by - Step How to

Max II jack shaft adjustment

This is the first of our new how to series, we will be adding more every week, so check back often.

The Max II machine has a unique twin jack-shaft sprocket system. There are two of these jack-shaft units installed in MAX II's one on the left and another on the right side. Each one does the same job, to move the chain outwards on the frame and to provide a lower gear ratios. Each of these jack-shafts spin on twin replaceable bronze bushings. These jack-shafts feature up and down adjustments along with forward and rearward adjustments to provide chain adjustments and proper alignments with the chains. Note these step by step instruction are for the left jack-shaft, the right jack-shaft adjustments are the exact the same.

Always disconnect negetive battey cable before servicing your machine.

Photos shows the left side jack-shaft when siting in machine facing forward. There are 4 adjuster nuts, which must be loosened to move jack-shaft, Photo shows the two nuts on the adjuster which is located more towards the center of the machine, Note: Red pointer on these nuts, loosen the nuts a few turns.

Photos also shows the same left side jack-shaft when siting in machine facing forward. Photo shows the two nuts on the adjuster which is located more towards the left side of the machine, Note: Red pointer on these nuts, loosen the nuts a few turns.

After loosening the four nuts described in last two steps.. Note the red pointer: The nuts located on top of the bulkhead will rase and lower the jack-shaft units , providing chain adjustments of the chain which goes down to the axle sprocket. Turn these two nuts the same, keep in mind you must keep jack-shaft units even and parallel to the sprocket on the axle, otherwise the chain will not run true and premature chain and sprocket wear will occur, Adjust these nuts untill chain has about 1/2" of free play.

Same concept and last step except these two nuts provide back and forth movement to allow adjustment of the chain from the T-20 transmission to the jack-shaft. Again turn these
nuts the same keeping jack-shaft units even and parallel to the sprocket on the T-20 transmission. Adjust these nuts untill chain has about 1/2" of free play.

Final step:

After final adjustment, go back and check jack-shafts for proper alignments, keeping them even and parallel with related sprockets, after all is checked tighten the 4 lock down adjuster nuts, that were loosened in the first and second steps.
